GridCraft is the spreadsheet application in the ArtCraft suite - the open-source answer to Microsoft Excel, shipping with the suite's Office family.
What it replaces
The Excel model: workbooks and sheets, cell formulas, formatting, charts and XLSX file interchange.
What it does today
- Multi-sheet workbooks with a practical function library.
- Charts and cell formatting.
- XLSX import/export.
- Scriptable via the suite's control channel - potentially interesting for data pipelines.
Where it is rough
- Function coverage is a subset of Excel's hundreds.
- No pivot tables yet (the big one).
- No macro/VBA ecosystem - by design, but it limits migration.
- Very large workbook performance is untested territory.
Who it suits now
Everyday spreadsheets, budgets and data tracking. Pivot-table power users and Excel-dependent workflows should wait.
